In the valve industry, the carbon steel is the most used material. Due to the low cost and good performance, it has some big advantage over the other material. Following TEKO would to share some info of the carbon steel in the valve industry.

First, we need to know what is steel and its major chemical elements. The steel is a metal combined Ferrum combined with carbon less than 2%. The carbon elements can increase the hardness of the steel but too much carbon makes material bristle, easy to break. If the carbon content larger than 2%, it is not steel, it would call CAST IRON. So that is the different.

But if the material only has the carbon and ferrum elements, the steel will get rust easily. So we need to add more elements to improve the rust-resistant ability. We add Manganese into the steel. It used for rust and corrosion prevention on steel.

For cast carbon steel, there are 3 grades: A216 WCA, WCB, and WCC, with better performance. Because the WCC has most Manganese content then the other two grades.

There are cast carbon steel and forged carbon steel in vale industry. In forge carbon steel, only one type the A105 used.
